We went back to Jerome for the day, first stop was the Jerome State Historic Park and if you ever go this should also be your first stop, it was a great wealth of local history. The museum features photographs, artifacts and minerals in addition to a video presentation and a 3-D model of the town with its underground mines. The informational video was one of the best we have seen, the first I didn’t fall asleep at! And the 3-D models were great to see the mine shafts and tunnels below the city. The museum is in the Douglas Mansion, built in 1916 by a family of influential mining entrepreneurs. This place reminds us a lot of Park City, where Park City is all about snow and skiing, Jerome is all about mining, wineries and beer so it’s easy to see why in my book it beats Park City.
We ate lunch at The Mine Café and again it was great. We split the AZ burger and had the home fries on the side. They don’t have French fries, but the home fries were soooo good I didn’t miss French fries and skip the ketchup as they are perfect without.
